At Salus, supportive housing combines permanent housing with flexible support tailored to each individual’s needs, helping people maintain housing, strengthen daily living skills, and stay connected to community.
Who We Support
At Salus, we support adults living with serious mental illness, often alongside substance use challenges and other complex needs.
Many of the individuals we serve have experienced homelessness, repeated hospitalizations, and long periods of instability. They are often navigating complex systems that are not designed for long-term stability or consistent support.
These experiences can make it difficult to maintain housing, build routines, and stay connected to community. Supportive housing at Salus is designed to address these challenges directly.
Why Supportive Housing
Supportive housing brings together permanent housing and ongoing support in a way that is designed to work over the long term. This approach is increasingly recognized as a critical part of a well-functioning health and housing system.
When people have access to stable, affordable housing with the right supports, outcomes improve – not only for individuals, but more broadly as well, reducing reliance on hospitals, emergency services, and other crisis-driven responses.
At Salus, we work closely with healthcare and community partners to create more connected, effective pathways of support.
With stable housing and consistent support, individuals are able to:
- Maintain housing over time
- Build independence and confidence
- Strengthen daily living skills
- Reconnect with community and relationships
- Reduce reliance on crisis services and hospitalization
For many, this provides the foundation to move forward in a way that reflects their own goals and circumstances.
What Our Supportive Housing Looks Like
Supportive housing at Salus is delivered in different ways, depending on individual needs and level of independence.
Independent Apartments
Private bachelor and one-bedroom units that support independent living, with access to onsite and community-based supports.
Shared Living
Homes with private bedrooms and shared common spaces, offering a more structured, community-oriented environment.
Partner Housing
Supportive housing delivered in collaboration with community partners, expanding access across Ottawa.
Across all settings, individuals live as tenants and participate in support services voluntarily.

Salus operates supportive housing in communities across the city, providing stable homes and integrated supports where they are needed most.
